MY FITNESS JOURNEY

MY FITNESS JOURNEY

Day 1 to now!

I am always getting messages from women asking my how I got started working out, what motivates me to keep going, and how in the world do I stay consistent! And just so you know, I LOVE these questions! Because if you’re asking, you’ve got that little tug in your gut to make some changes like I did in 2014, and I’m here to tell you to LISTEN to it!

It also prompted me to finally sit down and write out my story in the hopes that it will serve someone else! I always say, “My story is not my own,” because I fully believe God gives us everything – including the struggles – to make much of Him and to help others! And I LOVE nothing more than serving women in The Full Life Project {my faith + fitness bootcamps}!

What motivated me to start

In 2014… gosh that seems so long ago… I was a wife to Matt, whom I loved with all my heart, and a mom to Henry (5) and Milo (3). They were my WORLD, and I was in awe of how much God had blessed me! But I also found myself struggling a lot physically. I had stopped birthing and nursing, and after a year or two, the weight was slipping on pretty easily. I had NEVER had trouble losing weight, so to do so when I was 33 was a shock!

Coupled with the fact that while pregnant and nursing, I had picked up some pretty bad habits like eating a chicken biscuit and tots and Diet Coke everyday for breakfast and downing a bag of cookie dough late at night… and NOT gaining weight because my body was burning it off… all led to some SERIOUS volume eating issues.

They were and are such a huge motivating factor for me!

Fitness wise, I was a runner, but that was about it. We owned gym memberships, but I just couldn’t or didn’t want to get there because of the boys. So…. I googled portion control (the eating issues) and found my first home workout program in The 21 Day Fix. I was so incredibly skeptical, but I was so desperate to change that I just hit SUBMIT and started it right away… not just the workouts but the portioned nutrition program too..

And guess what! It worked! I lost the extra lbs and found a way of eating I could LIVE with! No quick fixes, or patches, or pills or Slim Fast… just real food in whole forms!

six months into my initial transformation!

How I stay motivated

Honestly? Because the changes I felt on the INSIDE showed up first, and I loved how i was FEELING! More confident with my husband. I had more energy to chase my beautiful boys. My hormones ( I suffer from PMDD) were drastically improving.

Having the energy to BE mom means so much to me with two rambunctious boys I homeschool now!

And… I had invited God in. Something I had NEVER done before in my life when it came to the choices I made with my body. And He was SLAYING me with his word! Deuteronomy 2:3 became my anchor verse.

"You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn North."

NO more yo-yo dieting. No more starting and stopping. THIS was how He had created me to live! At peace with my body and with Him! And I was seeing great and CONSISTENT results in my body! .

I also have to add that change doesn’t happen overnight. I’m a HUGE believer in creating HABITS that help you achieve your goals and SUSTAIN them. I used to be that girl who got to my goal weight and then went back to all my old habits. Not anymore.

Some of my favorite routines that serve me well include:

  • My early morning quiet time and journaling. Getting into God’s word FIRST!
  • Working out in the AM. If I don’t do it early, it isn’t going to happen!
  • Meal Planning and prepping on the weekends.
  • Praying over my plans.
  • Using The Full Life Project Bootcamp for accountability! {These women INSPIRE me to keep showing up!}
