What Do You Eat??

I get asked this question probably more than any other question.  I think some people are truly curious and want to know if they can do it as well.  I think some people – concerned individuals – think that maybe I am not eating…But I promise, I AM!!! I actually consume a lot of food in a day.

An example of my weekly meal planning

My day consists of three full meals and at least two full snacks, sometimes three.  When I was struggling to lose weight and get healthy, I was focusing on getting a lot of “healthy” foods into my main meals.  I was not eating very often, and I was getting pretty hungry between meals.   This meant that I was totally overeating at mealtime…even though it was nutritious food.


Through the 21 Day Fix and my Beachbody challenge group, I learned to eat more frequently and focus on PORTIONS – a word that my body was not really familiar with.  I learned that while avacados and nuts are really good for your body, they should be consumed in much smaller portions that I was used to.  I learned that protein combined with a complex carb and a healthy fat makes for a killer combo!  Carbs are NOT the enemy!  Our body actually needs them for energy.  The fiber in them helps regulate our blood sugar, and they help metabolize the protein we consume with them!  The issue comes when you choose the wrong kind of carbs.  Obviously, that iced sugar cookie is not going to do much to fuel my body, but some whole wheat toast covered with yummy peanut butter will go a long way!

Has it always been easy to resist the temptations that have come my way?  Absolutely not!  I have given in to chocolate chip cookies when it wasn’t in my plan.  I have eaten a whole bowl of that fabulous quacamole at our local Mexican restaurant.  Are those things evil? Absolutely not! In moderation, I can still enjoy these treats.  I just cannot do it daily and whenever I feel like it.  My body has changed.  My cravings have changed.  When I go to bed at night knowing that the things I have put into my body were the ones that give me energy, help control my hormones, and help me think clearer, I am a much more content woman, momma and wife.  This is God’s plan for me!

So, if you’re wondering if you can get to a place where your body actually craves the good stuff, I am here to tell you that YES, YOU CAN!  Not only do I crave the right kind of foods, but I absolutely love my workouts.  I feel like I have missed getting to go out on the playground if I miss a workout.  Consistency is key.  Determination is key.  Prayer is essential!
