Sometimes You Just Need a Sick Day…

Sometimes You Just Need a Sick Day…

I would never ever wish sickness upon anyone, especially my own children.  So, when Henry had to have his ear and sinus procedure last week and came down with the flu on top of that, my first thoughts were “Oh crap!” (Just speaking truthfully.)

Pre-op.  My brave boy!

But you know what?  Over the past four or five days, we have had the most relaxed and enjoyable time as a family.  There is something about our kids being sick that just makes us STOP.  Of course Henry felt bad, and unfortunately, now Milo is sick as well.  But even with all that, we spent time together as a family.  We played outside in the awesome weather when they felt well, and we did not allow outside distractions to interrupt our time together.

Resting and snuggling

Of course, I was able to get some work done while Henry rested and help my challengers and coaches, but I don’t honestly consider that work.  It’s my passion.

I think that God uses the things that are supposed to be horrible…aka the FLU…and turns them into good things.  Don’t get me wrong; Henry felt REALLY bad at times, but those were few and far between.

One of his “Feeling better” moments!

And God told me to “slow down.”  He told me to just lay in bed and hold Henry.  To play Uno while we were there.  To watch a movie with him and Milo and have a discussion about it with them.

Sunday lunch…sweet potato chips

Grilling out

I’m ashamed to say that we are often so busy with school, meals, homework, baths and bedtime that we don’t just CHILL together.

We cooked a lot.  Really yummy food.

So, even though Milo is now sick, and Matt and I will most likely be sick as well.  I am thankful for this stinking old virus.  It forced us to slow down and enjoy one another.

Milo and I played soldiers and cave men, A LOT!

Especially with all the hurt, illnesses, hardships and disease so many other families are facing right now.  I’ll take the flu any old day!

And it looks like it will be my turn to stay home with them tomorrow.  I plan to soak up every minute!

Those are my musings for today!

xoxo,
Rachel
