How To Snooze-Proof Your Morning Routine

How To Snooze-Proof Your Morning Routine

I have always considered myself a morning person.  I don’t mind getting up before 7:00 a.m. most days. I rarely sleep past that time, even on the weekends.  Even when I was in highschool, I was an early riser.  I THRIVE during that time, and I’m so thankful for that.

It is when I spend time with God, get my workouts in, connect with my challengers and coaches.  It’s my POWER time!

But lately, after the holidays and with both being sick, I find myself hitting the snooze button more an more.  And waking too late, rushing through my devotions and scrambling to get everything done before I have to leave for my hour long drive to work! And that cannot continue!  I have way to much going on to be hitting snooze every morning!

So, I read a book last year called The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod.  And I remembered him having some really good tips that back then I just thought sounded silly….until I needed them!

So, I’m sharing some of his combined with some of my own to help you “Snoozers” get out of bed and make the most of your mornings!  I know I’m not the only one!

1. Set Your Intentions Before Bed
If you don’t know what you’re waking for and WHY, then you’re not very likely to stay committed to waking early.  Are you waking to workout? To spend some super quiet time alone with God, because you can’t with 3 kids climbing all over you or because you’re slammed at work?  Tell yourself before you go to bed, “I GET to wake up and spend time with God in the morning.

Maybe you’re waking to workout and just get organized before the day begins and the house wakes. Tell yourself before you fall asleep, ” I am healthy enough to move my body and make good choices.  I have the opportunity to wake up and get my thoughts together before serving my family.”

Its a conscious effort to decide to create a positive mindset before you sleep, so that you will wake with those thoughts on your mind.  Try it!

2. Set Your Alarm Clock or Phone on the Other Side of The Room
This REALLY works!  There is nothing more annoying than the sound of an alarm clock to me.  I hate them!  And to have to get up to silence it wakes me from my sleep enough to start thinking….hopefully about those intentions I set the night before (see? it’s already working!)

If you leave your alarm next to your bed, all you have to do is reach over to silence it.  This is not going to wake you enough to get you moving.  So, just be a big girl, and put it on the dresser across the room!

3. Brush Your Teeth
This is the FIRST thing I do when waking.  Running the water, and then the act of brushing does so much to get me going!  If that’s not enough, splash some water on your face.

4. Lay Your Workout Clothes Out the Night Before
This is a ritual I have been practicing for a couple of years now.  Knowing that I don’t have to go searching for workout clothes and socks and shoes is just one step to getting me out of bed and on the right track. If I know I have to go round it all up, that just sounds too tiring at 4:30 a.m.

5. Commit to a Devotion or Book of the Bible
Just like with my workout clothes, if I know what devotion or book of the Bible I’m going to be opening the next morning, I have a plan.  Something to look forward to.  If I don’t, I’m not as excited/committed to starting the day with it.

I’m currently reading a 21 Day Fast devotion in The Bible App and reading through the book of Nehemiah.  Oh my!  So much goodness in BOTH!

6. Drink a Full Glass of Water
We all naturally dehydrate during sleep.  And most people feel tired when they wake or at any point of the day if we are dehydrated.  It’s the worse feeling to me!  So, drinking a glass of water when you wake gets your mind and organs going.  I personally wake and drink a BIG glass of water with my Energize in it.  It is a pre-workout formula with a small amount of caffeine that wakes me up but also helps me perform better during my workouts.  I love it!

So that’s it!  Those are my tips.

I hope that you will try them and really start to establish a new routine for waking and slaying your day!

And it’s really just all about creating new habits.  As is anything health related.  I pray this guides you in some way and you start creating more productive mornings for yourself!  Let me know if you do!  I’d love to hear feedback!  Email me at janzenmitch@Outlook.com

549808 879028Wow, cool post. Id like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a very good article but I procrastinate too significantly and never seem to get started. Thanks though. 81104
