Our Thanksgiving Feast

Our Thanksgiving Feast

Henry started asking me the week before Thanksgiving if we could have our own Thanksgiving Feast.  They have been talking about it at school and had their own, and he wanted to have one at home.  I have always wanted to do that just for the four of us, but there never seemed to be time for it with all of our holiday festivities during the week.  This year was no exception, but I decided to make time for it!

And it was so worth it!!!!

Our attempt at a family photo…

I know that it will not be long before Henry and Milo are disenchanted with spending quality time with Mommy and Daddy.  Some day they will view it as an inconvenience or just something they have to do.  I know that some day their interests will take them outside of our home and into those of their friends.  I also know that all too soon it will be time for them to leave us and make lives of their own. I am very much ok with these things, as I know they are part of the natural progression of life, but I SO want to make sweet memories with them right here and right now.

Can you see the headdresses?

I want them to remember love-filled days with us. Days full of one-on-one play time…full of laughter…and full of thanks! I know that Matt and I are front and center in their lives, and I pray often that we live life in such a way that they know with out a doubt that:

  1. We love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
  2. We love each other
  3. We love them with all that we are
With that in mind, I planned and prepped for our Thanksgiving Feast focusing on things that we all would enjoy.

  • Henry loves to PLAN.  He has also been learning about etiquette and setting the table at school, so he helped me do that.
  • Milo loves to pretend!!! So, while I was cooking, he made his own Indian headdress to wear at dinner.  They brought home some pilgrims hats from school as well, so he placed those on the table for decorations.

  • Matt loves anything FESTIVE!  So, I made sure the table was done up right with candles, pumpkins and beautiful food.  Matt is a very “traditional” sort of person, so I knew he would love it!
I also wanted to try some new clean recipes and keep the food as healthy as possible.  Which turned out to be much easier than I expected!!! And it was all absolutely delicious!!! I made an Orange and Rosemary Roasted Turkey, glazed carrots, my version of a Green Bean Casserole, Thanksgiving Dressing, and  Pumpkin Pie.  Delicious!

Green Beans with Mushroom, Garlic, and Fried Onions
Turkey and Glazed Carrots
Pumpkin Pie with Lite Cool Whip

I cooked all day long, and by the time Matt came home from work, the boys were so excited they could not wait any longer!  We sat around the table, talked, enjoyed our hard work, and discussed what all we were thankful for.  Sweet memories were most certainly made.

God is good…all the time!
