Our Baseball Summer Getaway

Our Baseball Summer Getaway

I feel like I’ve been all over the place this summer, and I’ve loved every minute of it!

Before the boys went back to school on July 29th – they have year round school – we took a quick little trip to enjoy some baseball fun together! If you don’t know much about my boys, Henry (10) and Milo (8), they live, eat and breathe baseball! So this was a perfect getaway for us all….cause Matt and I love it as much as they do!

Cincinnati Reds Game to See our Cardinals Play!

The Louisville Slugger Museum

Louisville, KY is about 4.5 hours from where we live, so we loaded up, and were there pretty quickly! Along the way we stopped briefly at Lincoln’s Birthplace…history nerd here loved it.. and then rolled into Louisville just in time for a GREAT dinner at Mussel’s and Burger, {hi, my name is Rachel, and I love to travel to eat and try new places!} and then we walked to the Louiseville Slugger Museum.

And it was EVERYTHING and MORE that we expected it to be! If you haven’t visited this museum, you MUST!

We learned about how the wood for bats is harvested, then made into billets {look that one up!}. How a player will come pick out his billet and then how the bats are made and painted. It may sound mundane, but to this baseball family, we were in heaven!

The boys all got to hold the bat of a famous baseball player, and Matt just wanted to play with the giant sized ones…..

I can’t remember whose they held!
But they were thrilled!
I just soaked up hanging with my guys!

Cincinnati, OH

More BASEBALL! Friday we went straight to our hotel, which was a Residence Inn and SUPER nice…. #sidenote. Played ping pong and then MORE BASEBALL!

It was BLAZING hot! But the boys wanted to be down by the ballpark, so we parked, walked, rode The Bird (motorized scooters for all you uncool people – JK… had no idea they were called that) and ate the WORST chili at Skyline Chili….I mean that is NOT chili!

Then we walked to the ballpark and waited to go in! Did I mention that baseball is life??? It was an INCREDIBLE game! Came down to the final inning and we stayed for ALL Of it!

My beautiful friend and a coach on my team. Olivia! She took us to Taste of Belgium on the river, and it was divine!

The rest of the weekend we played at the hotel, met up with some of our favorite people – coaches, and old friends from home and then we headed back towards Corinth on Sunday.

I know it’s sideways, and promise to fix it! HA!

Our last stop was Mammoth Cave for a quick tour of some caverns and then we got back to home sweet home. There is NOTHIN Like coming home in my book!

I think about this often. Coming home is a blessing. To so many people it may not be. We love our house. We love our street. We love our community. We are blessed. God, please don’t ever let me take that for granted!

Until next time! Our next adventure as a family will be as much fun as the last. I pray these boys will remember these days. They are so precious to me!
