Hammer and Chisel Month One Progress

Good morning!  Today is February 9th, and I am blown away by how far we are into 2016 already!! It feels like I JUST started this program with my challengers, and here we are already in Week 5!  

I wanted to share my progress thus far and my thoughts on this workout.  Of course, I have done Autumn’s 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme and Sagi’s Body Beast.  I loved all of those programs for difference reasons.  But there were also things I did NOT like about them.  So I went into this assuming the same would apply, and I was right!  


I love that as a coach, my job is to test out new workout programs and share my thoughts.  I am committed to following these plans as closely as I can and sharing my honest thoughts and results.  


And I am ever thankful for finding Beachbody!!! Two years ago the word “Beachbody” meant extreme workout programs for people who were incredibly vain and focused only on looking good in a bikini…(see? full discretion!)


Today, I am so glad to admit how WRONG I was!  And honestly, if I had not gotten to a point that I was so desperate to feel better and lose weight, I don’t think I would have ever given that first workout program a shot!


It literally took God getting me to a point of desperation and unhappiness with myself and my body to push me to try something I had already made my mind up was NOT for me! So, when I say I’m thankful…I mean it!


So, back to Hammer and Chisel.  Here are some things that I love about the program!


1. The Diversity!  There are so many different workouts that I never get bored!  I love that it combines weights, cardio, resistance bands, and the stability ball!  My body gets a workout throughout the week from head to toe!  My core is stronger because of workouts like Chisel Balance and using the stability ball instead of a bench.  
And I tend to get bored with workouts, so it’s nice to have such a range of workouts to choose from!



2. The Workout Calendar.  I am a plan follower.  I love to have instructions to follow and everything laid out for me.  That is one of the very first things I discovered worked for me with Beachbody programs. They do not leave room for guessing. The meal plan guide is simple.  The portion containers are a no-brainer.  The workout calendar is perfection!!! I just get up, find the workout for that day, pop it in the dvd player or pull it up On Demand and DO IT!


And honestly, the workouts are designed to really keep your body guessing and building strength.  Every week I have felt soreness in a different area.  Which means that my body is changing and getting stronger!!!


3. The Meal Planning Options.  So, with the 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme, you know I LOVE my portion control containers and meal planning guide.  It is how I learned to eat properly and in the correct portions. I have followed this for almost two years now and it works for me! But with those programs, the goal is simply weight loss.
Well, Hammer and Chisel took it a step further.  I am at a point where my weight is healthy, although it may fluctuate a few pounds throughout the month, I’m happy with where I’m at. 

With this program, you can build your meal plan based on your goal:


Weight Loss
Maintining 
Building Muscle
Which I think is really great, because this program can work for anyone!  No matter your fitness level or your goals.  
Now!  For a couple of things I don’t love…

1. Personality.  I’ll be truthful.  I love Sagi’s workouts but I don’t love listening to him.  He’s very skilled and knowledgeable, but my ideal trainer is Chalene Johnson.  She’s fun, upbeat, encouraging and just a rock star!!! Sagi is a great trainer, and honestly it just comes down to preference.  Chalene is my gal!

2. The attire.  This is without a doubt a Christian blog.  My faith is what fuels my fire and my decisions.  With that said, I think that the workout clothes the women wear in the videos leaves very little to the imagination.  Matt works out with me to these videos, and occasionally the boys are in there with us.  Matt watches me mostly so he doesn’t have to watch the videos, and I feel like i have to hurry through or distract the boys when they’re in the room. If you don’t have boys or can workout alone, then no problem!

And that’s pretty much it.  I am really enjoying the program and seeing results!!! After month 1, I have lost 4 lbs and 4 inches total.  Most of the that is in my waist.  My core is definitely tighter, and I am beginning to see some abs!!!

And my challengers are rocking this program as well!  We are a small group, which is really ideal when doing a test group.  We have had a blast sharing our thoughts, struggles and results!!!

One of my challengers didn’t have a lot to lose, but this program has taught her how to eat properly and given her a great deal of strength in her daily routine.

One challenger has lost almost 8 inches in one month!  This morning she posted simply, “I’m like that my clothes are fitting better.”  Win!

So, we have one more month to go to complete the program!! I am getting ready for our cruise, and I have a couple of goals I would like to achieve before then.  They are:

1. To lose three more pounds.
2. To tighten my core and see more definition in my abs.
3. To complete the program stronger than I started!

And seriously guys, there is no secret sauce to weight loss or health.  It’s simply showing up every single day.  Giving it your all – consistently and making it happen!



I was reading the Compound Effect this morning by Darren Hardy.  He was talking about how we need to get back to the work ethic of our grandparents and great grandparents.  They didn’t sit around and wait for results.  They worked for them!

STOP NOW!!! Results come when you put in the work.  Not just for a week and then quit.  But work at it consistently.  Be determined, inspired, and motivated to move forward.  Find your WHY! One big enough that you won’t give up when the road gets hard.  Because it will.  Without a doubt.
