BCAAs and Women

BCAAs and Women

I’ve been doing some research on BCAAs – Branch Chain Amino Acids – to see if they would be something beneficial to add to my supplement regimen.

But first, What Are BCAAs?

They are a combination of three essential amino acids. Essential amino acids cannot be produced within the body, so they can only be acquired through supplements. There are a total of nine essential amino acids, but only three that make up BCAAs.  These three make up  35% of muscle protein and are important when it comes to building lean muscle.

  • Leucine – Leucine is probaly the most important amino acid.  Research has show that it is the main BCAA and is responsible for stimulating protein synthesis in the body to build lean muscle.
  • Isoleucine – This amino acid is said to increase energy levels and regulate glucose in teh blodd.
  • Valine – Valine helps stimulate the central nervous system.  It also helps prevent muscle breakdown, in turn helping recovery and muscle growth.

BCAAs are shown to increase energy, immunity, and lean muscle growth overall.

So it’s apparent why women who are working out and eating clean would want to add this supplement.

BUT!!!! Just adding BCAAs to your routine alone will NOT have the desired effect.  These must be taken in conjunction with a lean diet and exercise.

How Should BCAAs be Taken?

There are lots of facts out there about ration and implemention, which I encourage you to research. Based on my own research of the subject, the proper ration of BCAAs is 2:1:1.  (That is the ration of amino acids – Leucine: iso-leucine: valine)

BCAAs should be taken in close proximity to your workout to support muscle growth and repair. And to also reduce soreness from workous.

I have been mixing mine with water and drinking during and immediately after my workouts.

My plan is to try them for a month and see if I notice any results.

And of course there are many different products out there to try, but I was looking for one that was more natural and did not use artificial sweeteners like sucralose or aspartame.

I found this one on Amazon from Momsanity
